Case Study 1: ILM Leadership Development Programme for world leading manufacturer.

Focus On Change have designed a bespoke ILM Leadership Development Programme for 30 managers of a world leading developer and manufacturer of sophisticated vacuum products used in the manufacturing processes of semiconductors, flat panel displays, LEDs and solar cells.

The ILM Leadership Development Programme is fronted by a capability matrix to analyse the required behaviours for participants to succeed in their managerial roles and a 360’ professional evaluation.

Employees will be engaged in the programme for six months starting in September 2015 when the programme commences at an outdoor leadership centre providing participants with a highly engaging experiential learning experience linked to the outcomes of their ILM Leadership Development Programme.

"Very good trainer – pitched right, relatable, provided a comfortable learning atmosphere"

Louise, HR Manager

"I was looking for someone who would understand the nuances of working with a brand leading manufacturer that could help us through a period of change.
Andy understood our needs and was incredibly easy to work with; pro-active, great ideas, intuitive and persuasive so his skill set really helped when we ran our event.
I am happy to say that working with Andy will be the first step in ensuring our Manager's are the very best they can be; I am reassured to know that Andy will be an integral part of that journey and will help us achieve that goal over the coming months"

Beverley, HR Manager

"We have used Andy over a number of years to deliver training. Andy has a great delivery style, is efficient, organised and has great experience in training. Highly recommended"

Christy, Head of HR

"During my time with Cranswick Convenience Foods, Andy was brought in to the organisation to focus on Leadership training for our management team. Not only was the course and particularly Andys delivery perfect for food manufacturing, Andy also tailored the work for those either new in role or low in confidence. This assisted the managers to benefit fully from the entirety of the course. I would definitely recommend Andy for all training, change programmes and leadership capabilities"

Kate, HR Business Partner

"Andy did a great job for us training a group of middle managers to be more effective. Easy to deal with and super reliable"

Graeme, Head of Business Development

"Andy has helped our leaders gain an understanding of key leadership tools and techniques using presentations, practical examples and workshops.
The interactive learning style has benefitted our managers and leaders throughout the business immensely with visible differences in the approach being taken by course candidates in their work and interactions.
Being away from site on this training has also strengthened the bond between our leaders encouraging a more collaborative approach"

Kevin, Quality Manager

"Andy presented a great leadership training course that was a great balance of learning and workshop style exercises. It was kept very focused on how to apply within our business but also within our different roles"
Louise, Project Manager

"Today I attended my last Management Development Training seminar, lead by Andy Wallwork. The programme has truly been interesting from start to end. Very enlightening, constructive and more importantly relevant to actual day to day challenges faced in the workplace.
I now consider myself more confident in introducing different methods and techniques to establish (and maintain) a well-motivated, performing, structured, and successful project team.
Andy has been an excellent instructor. Has managed to keep everyone's attention/involvement throughout the programme and his personable style made learning enjoyable"

Drew, Project Engineer

Case Studies and Recommendations

Case Study 2: Large multiple site “change” initiative with major supplier for Tesco.

As part of a large-scale organisational development programme, Focus On Change are working with a major supplier for Tesco across sites in the North and South of the UK. The Focus On Change team will be supporting middle and senior managers through the “change” initiative with a series a planned interventions and workshops to develop and improve leadership skills, leadership behaviours, and change management practices.

Case Study 3: Ofsted “Outstanding” Further Education College in South Somerset.

Focus On Change were instructed by a highly successful further education college in South Somerset who have recently been graded as “Outstanding” by Ofsted, to design and deliver a range of leadership and management courses focused around business improvement and change.

Delivery started in March and is planned to run for a full 12 months with over 40 learners achieving qualifications awarded by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).

Case Study 4: International engineering company with a large facility in Somerset.

The middle tier of managers had largely been promoted internally from junior positions. Over time it became apparent there was a managerial skills shortage at this level and the quality of leadership left a lot to be desired. Morale was low and sickness was high.

We were able to work with the organisation to develop a bespoke leadership development programme that could be used to upskill the middle tier of managers over a period of six months. The programme covered such topics as: Managing and Leading Others, Personal Effectiveness,  Business Improvement Techniques, Change Management, Communication Skills, and Performance Management.

At the same time we worked with their HR team to make recommendations for how they could improve their recruitment methods and talent management practices.

By the end of the six month programme morale within the middle tier of managers was measurably higher, sickness was measurably lower, and the impact the increase in skills had was clear for everyone to see.

Case Study 5: Japanese owned engineering company with a large facility in South Somerset.

A three-part Lean programme was developed for 35 managers as part of an initiative to improve efficiencies and reduce waste costs. Many of the managers were new to Lean methodologies and others had previous experiences that hadn’t worked out well.

We set about with establishing a clear governance for all Lean projects that came out of the programme to ensure they achieved their full potential, within this we created buy-in at all levels within the organisation.

As part of the programme the managers would scope out and work on live projects, they would have to define and measure their projects and seek authorisation before the project could be implemented.

Without exception all of the projects were a major success and the organisation identified many opportunities to change processes in order to increase efficiencies, most importantly the organisation was able to identify over £250k of cost savings.
